Most young people recognize Jean-Michel Basquiat being mentioned in some of today's lyrics from hip hop artists like Jay-Z, Kanye, and Rick Ross. I was first introduced to his work when I watched a documentary a couple years ago entitled "The Radiant Child" It struck interest in me and I was amazed at how much Basquiat accomplished in his short life time. My friend Jermaine Clark (another great artist) always told me that artists don't get recognized for their work until they're dead. So it was astonishing to me to see how quickly Basquait gained worldwide recognition for his work while he was still living. From decorating the walls of Soho under the alias SAMO to having his work displayed in top galleries around the world. Jean-Michel Basquiat truly was "The Explosive Force of the Streets"
Having a grandfather that's an artist has its perks. The other day he purchased this book for me which is full of Basquiat's artwork and also gives detailed analysis on some of his best work.
Side note: Am I the only one who thinks Basquiat and Kid Cudi look alike?
